I am a mom who runs. I run errands. I run the vacuum cleaner. I run the dishwasher. I run kids places. I run the household.

I also run on roads, on trails and on beaches ~ my favorite!

Run alongside me as we inspire, encourage and motivate one another to run Farther, run Faster and run Fearless.

Streeeeeetch

Do you stretch before and/or after a run? This is one of my new goals. I feel the need to make streeeeeeeeetching a regular part of my running routine and not just an afterthought.

Melanie and Meka, post run!
My friend Meka and I met for a run today and she walked me through her stretching routine before we ran. By the way, Meka had already run her daily 6 miles before we met to run my daily 3.1 miles. I'm thinking, in addition to regular stretching, I'll also add an extra mile or three to my 2011 running plan.
Meka is an ACE certified trainer and trains the US National Optimist Team (sailing). So, if you have a running or training question, Meka's your go to girl! Simply leave a question in the comment section.

For an all over leg stretch
Uncrossed legs then cross them

My turn

calf stretch

Stretching the obliques, too!

On another note, except for today which was in the 70's, it has cooled off a quite a bit here in Florida. See that top I'm wearing?
It's by "alo" and it's moisture wicking which is perfect for running.
Retailing for $32, I got mine at Marshall's on clearance for $10.
And it's in one of my favorite colors! Check out the discount department stores for good buys on all kinds of running apparel. It doesn't have to cost a lot to look cute while you run!

I didn't get pictures of each stretch Meka showed me so I am linking to a website that will show you "Five Fantastic Stretching Exercises" from Debbie Pitchford, a physical therapist.

Stretching is important, says Pitchford, not only because it will make you a better runner, less likely to get injured, but it can also help you to maintain flexibility to do all the other activities in your life.
