I am a mom who runs. I run errands. I run the vacuum cleaner. I run the dishwasher. I run kids places. I run the household.

I also run on roads, on trails and on beaches ~ my favorite!

Run alongside me as we inspire, encourage and motivate one another to run Farther, run Faster and run Fearless.

Shake It, Baby!

Are you doing anything different for fitness now that the heat is upon us? I'm shaking things up a bit. I'm running less but doing more!

Instead of running 6 days a week, I'm running 4 - 5. (I always take my Sundays off.) But I've started going to a spin class at the Y on Monday mornings because my daughter recently started leading the class.

Whew! I worked up a sweat spinning this morning. I also ran a mile after the class.

If I don't go for a run or a spin, I Shred (Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred dvd).

I've also started adding push-ups to my daily fitness routine. If you want a quick and reliable routine for firming your arms, do push ups.
I do 2 sets of 10 and mostly on my knees, girl-style, but I'm working my way up to doing them on my toes.
As a runner, I have a tendency to feel like I have not really worked out unless there's at least a 3 mile run involved!
But I don't want to neglect my upper body and I really don't want to give into the upper arms that keep on waving even after the greeting has ended. When I think of flabby upper arms, I get a mental image

of my 4th grade teacher standing at the chalkboard and writing our vocab words or math problems, and all the while her arm waves like a flag in the wind!

And a recent addition to my nutrition is the Vega shake. Click on the word "Vega" for more information. I mix one scoop of vega power in chocolate (I've heard chocolate is by far the best flavor.) with one cup of almond milk, 1/2 a banana and some ice cubes. Per the advice of a friend who is very knowledgeable in nutrition, I drink this within 30 minutes following my workout. I have found that my energy level has increased and it helps cut cravings. Plus, it's just so healthy!
So there you go, my changes for the summer! What about you? Are you shaking things up?

  1. I, too, am changing things up a bit. I still love my weight lifting routine but I'm adding more variety to my cardio. It seems to me that when the weather changes, it makes you inspired to change other areas in your life. Go Vega! It is great.

  2. Trying to get into the weights/toning thing more...which reminds me, abs are today! I tend to put it off until later in the day, then 8pm hits and I don't get to it at all (I walk or run in the morning)

Also trying to get in more smoothies...coconut milk, banana and frozen fruit - sometimes I even add spinach!

  3. I had tried to workout with a trainer in addition to running. But I think this summer, I am going to run 4 days a week and do some weight stuff at home on my own the other 2 days. My goal is to stick with it even in our new summer schedule! :)
